- Create a room for a disaster. This should be a room below ground. Make it bomb and sound proof. Stock it with essential food, water and tool supplies.
- Install smoke alarms and test them every month. Buy fire extinguishers and fire blankets in case of an emergency and keep one of each on each floor. If you live in a 2-story building, keep and escape ladder in each oom under the bed in-case you cannot get out through the door.
- Install safety gates, even if you do not have a baby. They can stop people falling.
- Buy a HSE 10 person first aid kit, or any other decent stocked first aid kit. This will help you in minor emergencies to major ones. consider keeping a smaller one in your car or office
- Keep garden tools in a locked shed or cabinet, grow prickly plants around fences (be careful if you have young children, or pets). Consider buying an Alert System for your house.
- Keep a cupboard in every room for emergency supplies. This should have food, water and other supplies.
- In your car, consider investing in a car emergency kit. This will contain tools, blankets, to water in-case your car over heats
